Rifqa Bary sought refuge with the Lorenz family who helped convert her to Christianity.

Fathima Rifqa Bary 17-year-old girl ran away from her Ohio home because she says she feared punishment for converting from Islam to Christianity. In Islamic tradition, an honor killing is the customary slaughter of a person who is believed to have brought dishonor upon his or her family.

The Orlando court is scheduled to hear arguments about whether Rifqa Bary should stay in state custody in Florida or be returned to her family in Columbus, Ohio.

Fathima Rifqa Bary is 17 and is an honor student and cheerleader. She was raised in a Muslim family in Columbus, Ohio. However, she became a Christian four years ago as a result of her interactions with children at school.

Fathima Rifqa Bary disappeared last month and police used phone and computer records to track her to the Rev. Blake Lorenz, pastor of Orlando based Global Revolution Church, whom she had met through an online Facebook prayer group. Fathima Bary is originally from Sri Lanka.
