Raquel Carreras was 14-year old died in a September 2007 car crash. Raquel Carreras was a passenger in a car driven by then 15-year old Shawn Ledesma. Lesa Ledesma mother of driver pleaded guilty to manslaughter and admitted giving her unlicensed son permission to drive and her car keys. Raquel Carreras was a cheerleader at Northeast High School cheerleader.

As per cour verdict Lesa Ledesma will spend 30 days in jail, plus two years house arrest as part of five years probation and 120 hours of community service. She must also write a letter of apology to Raquel Carreras mother Michelle Carreras and pay her $5,000 for funeral expenses.

“It’s fine. It doesn’t matter if she got life or if she got one hour, it doesn’t bring my daughter home.

Shawn Ledesma pleaded guilty earlier this year to vehicular homicide, but unlike his mother, he did not first make a deal with prosecutors. He is being prosecuted as an adult and could be imprisoned for nine to 15 years. His sentencing is scheduled for October 19.
