Berlin wall located at Berlin and the  Berlin wall history tells Germany celebrates the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall in 2009. Hillary Rodham Clinton, secretary of State is congratulating Germans marking 20 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall.The Berlin Wal was a concrete barrier erected by the German Democratic Republic that completely encircled the city of West Berlin, separating it from East Germany, including East Berlin. The Wall included guard towers placed along large concrete walls, which circumscribed a wide area that contained anti-vehicle trenches, “fakir beds” and other defenses.

The wall stretched nearly 100 miles (155 kilometers) around West Berlin, including 30 miles (43 kilometers) through the city itself. Nearly 12 feet (3.6 meters) high in places, the barrier featured hundreds of watch towers, miles (kilometers) of anti-vehicle trenches, bunkers, barbed wire, signal fences and other obstacles.
