Jim Marshall Rock n Roll Photographer is dead. Jim Marshall was a legendry photographer who has taken images of the likes of Rolling Stones in 60s and 70s died in his sleep at a New York Hotel yesterday night at the age of 74. The cause of death is not yet known.
Even if you don’t know legendary rock photographer Jim Marshall – you know his photographs. Jimi Hendrix setting his guitar on fire onstage at Monterey, Johnny Cash in Folsom Prison and flipping the bird onstage, Miles Davis boxing at Newman’s Gym, Jim Morrison taking a puff and many more
Jim Marshall shot the photographs (black and white in those times) of the pop stars both onstage and offstage. His photographs has helped many of the famous pop stars to create their image as pop icons and at the same time human and reachable. The work of Jim Marshall has created a niche and has inspired many young photographers to take career as “Rock n Roll Photographer.” He was known for his forceful personality that became something of a celebrity of its own.
The book Trust: Photographs of Jim Marshall by Dave Brolan published by (Omnibus Press) in Hardcover is a collectible resource for Rock n Roll fans. Marshall’s book is filled with never before published images mixed with his classics along with the stories behind them. Marshall explains his access to the biggest names in rock in the forward “Whenever anyone asks me how I got the photographs I did, why I was often the only photographer present or got such unique access I reply simply, ‘Trust’.

Marshall was the only photographer allowed backstage at The Beatles last concert, and chief photographer at Woodstock. He was the photographer of Jimi Hendrix setting his guitar on fire at the Monterey Pop Festival and Johnny Cash at San Quentin.
