Giant sinkhole in Guatemala has become a cause of concern. The recent Storm Agatha in Guatemala has not only left things in diarrary on the surface but has also caused a Giant sink hole.
Although the Giant sinkhole is not new to Guatemala as even in year 2007 a Giant sink hole of 330 feet deep swallowing Guatemala Homes was reported by National geographic. 330 feet was equivalant to a 30 storied building or more than two times the statue of Liberty.
What causes Giant sinkholes?
There can be many reasons, but the main reasons at Guatemala are:
- Rainstorms and ruptured sewer main can cause the sinkhole
- Underground rocks that can be dissolved by water for example salt, gypsum, and limestone are inundated
- Removal of groundwater can also leave gaps underground that can lead to sinkholes
Sinkholes even happen in USA or UK. If you know similar incidents – report here by writing in comments below.
