‘Home Run Derby 2010 contest winner is Boston’s David Ortiz’





is a special conquest of top home run hitters in the Major Baseball League to know which player can hit the most runs. In its 25th year held last Tuesday night at the Los Angeles Angels home.

Eight contenders entered the event and for the final round legue, only David Ortiz, Hanley Ramirez of Florida Marlins and Corey Hart of Milwaukee Brewers were left. The Home Run Derby is an event played prior to the Major League Baseball All-Star Game. The event is currently sponsored by State Farm Insurance.

Former sponsors have included Century 21 Real Estate and Service Merchandise. The “Big Papi”, Ortiz blasted off with 11 home runs to finish the top spot in the game. David Americo Ortiz Arias is a Dominican Major League Baseball designated hitter for the Boston Red Sox. Nicknamed “Big Papi”, Ortiz is a six-time All-Star and holds the Red Sox single-season record for home runs with 54, set during the 2006 season. Ortiz is 6 ft 4 in (1.93 m) and weighs 230 pounds (104 kg). Ortiz plays first base in NL parks.
