Roman Polanski walks Free! Roman Polanski is a French-born and resident Polish film director, producer, writer and actor.

In September 2009 Polanski was arrested by Swiss police, at the request of U.S. authorities, when he traveled to receive a lifetime achievement award at the Zurich Film Festival. The United States formally requested his extradition on 23 October 2009. On July 12, 2010, the Swiss authorities announced that they would not extradite Polanski to the USA after they judged the American request for extradition was faulty. The Justice minister Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf freed him from house arrest and told a press conference, “He is a free man.”
