‘Virgin of the Rocks painting by Leonardo da Vinci at National Gallery.’
The Virgin of the Rocks (sometimes the Madonna of the Rocks) is the usual title used for both of two different paintings with almost identical compositions, which are at least largely by Leonardo da Vinci. They are in the Louvre, Paris, and the National Gallery, London. Leonardo da Vinci’s Virgin of the Rocks at National Gallery on display at the National Gallery after an 18-month conservation programme On 14th July 2010 Leonardo da Vinci’s picture, The Virgin of the Rocks, went on display at the National Gallery. London’s National Gallery is home to two paintings by the Italian Renaissance artist, Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519). One is The Virgin and Child with Saint Anne and Saint John the Baptist (also known as The Leonardo Cartoon, ca.1499-1500), and the other is The Virgin of the Rocks (ca. 1491-1508).
