Armistice Day or Remembrance Day 2010 London. Here are the latest news and updated reports, The United Kingdom remembers the men and women who gave their lives in the two World Wars and subsequent conflicts in 11th of November.
11 November is known as Armistice Day or Remembrance Day. During the First World War, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918, the guns of the Western Front fell silent after more than four years of continuous warfare. ArmisticeDay (also known as RemembranceDay) is on November 11 and commemorates the armistice signed between the Allies of World War I and Germany at Compiègne, France, for the cessation of hostilities on the Western Front, which took effect at eleven o’clock in the morning—the “eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month” of 1918. While this official date to mark the end of the war reflects the cease fire on the Western Front, hostilities continued in other regions, especially across the former Russian Empire and in parts of the old Ottoman Empire.
