The 2011 Masters Tournament at Augusta National begins Thursday morning. The course’s gates are scheduled to open at 7 am ET, with first tee time set for 7:45 am. Augusta National Golf Club, located in Augusta, Georgia, is a famous men’s golf club. It was the number one ranked course in Golf Digest’s 2009 list of America’s 100 greatest courses and is currently the number ten ranked course on Golfweek Magazine’s 2011 list of best classic courses in the USA (written from a golf course architecture viewpoint).

The 38th Ryder Cup, which pits teams of professional golfers from the USA and Europe in a three – day series of matches, is currently being held at the Celtic Manor Resort in the city of Newport, South Wales. The event, of which the USA is the defending cup holder, was played on a newly-constructed course. The team captains are Colin Montgomerie for Europe and Corey Pavin for the USA. The tournament was opened by Carwyn Jones, First Minister for Wales.

If you are watcing Virginia Tech Hokies – you must have come across term Hokie. Ever wonder – What is a Hokie? Well the word word “Hokie” has nothing to do with a turkey – the mascot of VT. Hokie was a term coined by O. M. Stull (VT class of 1896) because it sounded good and grabs attention and used it in a spirit yell. He wrote this for a competition and won the $5 top prize for his cheer, now known as Old Hokie:
