website has mocked about the worst dressed persons visiting Walmart stores.

People of  WalMart finds not only many Mullets in Walmart but also other funny dressed people.  People say trip to Wal-Mart is always an adventure.

The site www.peopleofwalmart.com, invites users to send in embarrassing pictures of Wal-Mart customers. Why don’t people wear shirts when they shop at Wal-Mart? Or pants that fit? Has that woman been wearing a fanny pack for 15 years or did she just recently pick up on the belt-as-purse trend? Is that guy wearing a cape? All such sorts of photos.

Since last week in August, People of Walmart went viral, earning mention on websites like Funny or Die. Its traffic increased by 700% on Aug. 27 alone. Photo submissions went from one or two to more than 120. The flood of visitors has even crashed the site.

People of Walmart website – Let the hilarity begin!

When I visit my hometown in central Maine, the trip to Wal-Mart is always an adventure. As I walk down the aisles, I love to entertain myself by seeing how many mullets I can spot. Have I ever left the store not seeing one? Come on, we’re talking central Maine and Wal-Mart. They rock the mullet like it’s 1989.
It seems that I’m not the only one amused by the crowds at Wal-Mart. Today I just discovered the website People of Walmart. Is this a fansite for the megastore. No way! Here’s how the creators describe PeopleofWalmart.com:
“People of Walmart was founded in August of 2009 by three friends and roommates after an inspirational trip to WalMart. Let’s face it; we all have seen the people who obviously don’t have mirrors and/or family and friends to lock them in a basement, and they all seem to congregate at Walmart. It’s not everywhere that you can shop for milk at 10 a.m. next to a 400lb mother of 6 wearing a pink tube top, leopard tights, and hooker heels”
After learning about People of Walmart, I let out a sigh of relief. At least I now know that unsightly people at Wal-Mart isn’t limited to central Maine.
Are you offended by the idea of this website? Well sir, I’d say that your picture may already be posted. I’m totally jealous I didn’t think of this concept. But then I’d never have the guts to sneak up behind a family wearing stone washed jeans just so I could snap their photo. Apparently a lot of people think it’s a cool concept too because the website has crashed! Check back tomorrow and hopefully then you can get your fill of rats tails and hammer pants.
People of Walmart Website – Cruel or Cool?

Have you heard of the new website that is bringing down servers because of the large amounts of traffic? It’s called peopleofwalmart.com. And, no, it is not a corporate website. It is literally pictures of people who shop at Walmart. Anyone is invited to load photos of those that shop at Walmart and put them up on the site for all to see. You can even add a tagline to the photos, which tend to be pretty mean. They claim the people gave permission, but I don’t know about that…
Do you think this is all in good fun or take offense? How would you like it if you ended up on their website?

People of Walmart, a website that launched earlier this month, catalogs the gloriously absurd attire that is sported by the big-box retailer’s customer base. There are photos of fat people in sweatpants, a child with a rattail and a guy wearing a Captain America costume. But the website’s founders, three guys in their early 20s who preferred to provide only their first names, aren’t interested in stereotypical rednecks or run-of-the-mill mullet sightings. “Mullets are too common,” says Andrew, who is 23 and lives in Indiana. “We want to document the kind of stuff that when you see it, you immediately have to call someone and be like, ‘Dude, I’m at Wal-Mart and I just saw a goat.’ “

Andrew, his brother Adam and their friend Luke started People of Walmart after a shopping trip to a South Carolina branch earlier this month. “We
turned a corner to see a stripper — at least, I think she was a stripper — with a shirt that read ‘Go F___ Yourself,’ and she had a 2-year-old kid in one of those child harnesses that looked like a dog leash,” says Adam. They turned another corner and saw a guy with a ZZ Top beard.
Inspired by the experience, the three friends — who shop at Wal-Mart regularly, sometimes while wearing ugly clothes — went home and created the website. They asked their friends to submit photos and naively assumed that no one outside their social circle would ever see it. “Honestly,” says Andrew, “we didn’t think we’d even update it very often.”

People of Walmart’s founders expect some people to take issue with the site’s tone. “I’m not gonna sit here and say the site isn’t pretentious or that it doesn’t poke fun at people — because it does,” admits Adam, who says he “loves” Wal-Mart. “But we have limits. We won’t make fun of the people who can’t help it.” They do not publish photos of disabled people or Wal-Mart employees who are just doing their job. “I can’t tell you how many people send in pictures of overweight people on motorized scooters,” he says. “But we won’t post them because some of those people need scooters for a reason.” He also refuses to post pictures of the Amish.
Because of those ground rules, People of Walmart mostly ridicules folks with bad hairdos, excessive tattoos or ill-fitting clothing. “Look, I’m a big guy,” says Adam. “I’m not going to walk around in medium-size clothes. I’d look like an idiot.” By the same token, he figures, you shouldn’t wear a Captain America costume, put your goat on a leash or let your pants fall down in public. If you do, you’re begging to be laughed at — just like this woman.

I recently came across a new website called People of Walmart (http://www.peopleofwalmart.com) that has quickly gone viral. This website was covered on sites like Times, Fox News, Times, Gawker, and Huffington Post.
The People of Walmart website puts up pictures of customers from Walmart with taglines underneath the pictures making fun of them. None of the pictures are blurred out, you can clearly see the faces of the people in most of these pictures. Anyone can submit any pictures that they come across to this website. Many people have already found this website funny, and the site has been down frequently due to an excessive amount of hits. The owners are planning to switch to a server that can handle all of the traffic.
What do you think of People of Walmart? Do you think they should continue mocking customers of Walmart? According to the website, pictures are on their with permission from the customers (although there’s no way to verify that). I think they should only do this if they have permission from their customers.

People Of WalMart – An Overnight Web Sensation

The site peopleofwalmart.com, which invites users to send in embarrassing pictures of Wal-Mart customers, became an internet phenom in the past few days, rising to one of the top searches in google, so much so that the site crashed Tuesday.  While we don’t think that this presents any sort of a crisis situation for Wal-Mart, we do think it provides them with the chance to defend their customers in a very public way, which will benefit their corporate image.
We would suggest a series of web ads featuring a wide variety of customers.  Diversity is the key here – both ethnically and socio-economically.  Unfortunately, sites that appeal to the lowest common denominator like this one are often very successful.
The site creators even have a sort of manifest:

While we think there are probably some Wal-Mart customers who are quite deserving of being poked fun at, being from LA, we have to note that there are just as many people worthy of viral status on the web walking Rodeo drive.
